Storage Den in Aberdeen, Scotland – Smart and Sustainable Storage Becomes Reality
In October 2025, we visited the Storage Den site in Aberdeen, Scotland, to deliver 12 custom-built containers. In this article, we show how this project evolved from planning to execution, and how it became an example of smart, sustainable storage.
From Planning to Delivery
The project began when Brian from Storage Den in Aberdeen, Scotland, first contacted us to explore possible solutions. He was particularly interested because we could integrate Janus roller doors with the Nokē Smart Entry access system directly into our containers, which was a key requirement for his project.
By simply providing their Google Maps location, we were able to prepare multiple scalable layout options. We used satellite imagery and other CAD tools to accurately scale the containers and plan the site layout. Several layout proposals were sent to the client for feedback, and after joint consultation and some modifications, we finalized the final layout.

Janus and Nokē Integration, Smart Access, Seamless Technology
The highlight of this project was the integration of Janus roller doors with Nokē Smart Entry access technology.
To realize this, we used the new container upgrade system from our partner Janus International Europe. Together with Janus and Nokē, we successfully integrated this system into our containers. The result is a container that is completely ready for digital access, without any structural modifications.
Customers already using Nokē, or planning to implement this smart access system, can now easily integrate our containers into their facilities, as everything works seamlessly together-from the roll-up door to the lock and app controls. This makes access easy, secure and completely digital.
We are proud of our partnership with Janus and Nokē on this landmark project, and look forward to continuing this collaboration. You can read more about this integration in our previous article .

From Concept to Completion
Storage Den already had internal storage, but there was unused land at the rear of the site, often used as parking. With our Z-Box product, this area could be transformed into a profitable, rentable section, maximizing space efficiency without additional construction activities.
Once the design was approved and delivery was complete, we arrived on site with our trusted installation team under the supervision of our engineers. The containers were unloaded and positioned according to the final layout. Unloading took only a few hours, and assembly of all 12 containers was completed within two days.
These containers were specially built without doors so that the Janus roller doors with Nokē technology could be installed seamlessly. The doors were ordered in green color to match Storage Den’s corporate identity. Installation of the doors took only a few extra days, and within a week the new smart, solar-powered containers were fully installed, cleaned and ready for rental.

Sustainable and Remote Operation
To make the new location completely independent and environmentally friendly, solar-powered lighting was added. This allows the site to operate remotely and sustainably, even without a direct power connection an important step toward energy-efficient self-storage parks.
Customer Insight
We contacted Brian from Storage Den to hear how he experienced the project, and this is his perspective:
“Storage Den’s recent expansion involved integrating USC containers with Janus roller doors and Nokē Smart Entry locks.
I wanted to create an offering that is a premium alternative to standard shipping containers by providing bespoke built insulated units with internal solar-powered lighting and keyless high security locks that could match our brand image.
The USC units, coupled with Nokē, are able to directly integrate with our existing units and operate fully remotely.”

An Example for the Future
This project at Storage Den Aberdeen shows how smart technology and sustainability can come together to create the next generation of self-storage. With Nokē Smart Entry access, Janus roll-up doors and solar energy systems, this location shows what is possible when innovation and practical design reinforce each other.
