Smart access on the rise – electric locks in self storage
Especially in parks that are unmanned or remotely managed, electric locks offer great advantages. They make self-storage more accessible, secure and efficient. No more hassle with lost keys or access cards, but instant overview and control via apps and online dashboards. Moreover, it contributes to a modern and professional image of your location.
USC is actively responding to this and is therefore working with various partners on smart lock solutions. Below we highlight a number of ongoing projects and collaborations.
Nokē – smart access via rolling door and app
For our integration with Nokē, we use the new roller door retrofit system from leading supplier Janus International Europe. Together with Janus and Nokē, we have integrated this into our containers. The result: a container that is fully ready for digital access, without any additional adjustments.
Customers who already work with Nokē or are eager to get started with their technology can now easily use our containers with this integration. Everything works together seamlessly, from roller door to lock and app control.
We look forward to continue working with Janus and Nokē. Keep an eye on our channels for updates and be sure to check out the photos of this new, secure container in action!

Mylock – retrofit lock with smart features
Together with the Dutch company Mylock, we have developed a special lock for our containers. This smart lock is completely retrofittable – so you don’t have to change anything about the container. It works with a code panel and your smartphone, and runs on batteries that last at least two years. Are the batteries running low? Then you will be notified of this via the online portal.
Should you still be too late to replace it, there is always an option to temporarily supply the lock with external power to still open it. The batteries are also rechargeable, so you don’t have to fuss with loose cables across your property. This makes the park flexible and future-proof.
The USC-Mylock lock is weatherproof, secure and easy to integrate into any existing management system thanks to Mylock’s open API. In short, a practical and smart solution for any park.

PlaceB – high-end design with automatic access
In collaboration with the Swiss company PlaceB, we are developing a container that is not only smart but also stylish. This container has a built-in electric lock that opens via your phone. As soon as you have access, the door automatically pops open and closes again as you would expect from a car door.
The doors are completely smooth finished on the outside, providing a sleek and premium appearance. This solution does require mains power, but of course that can be perfectly combined with our Off-Grid solution with solar panels. This creates a self-sufficient, modern and fully automated unit.

Sedisto – smart padlock with NFC technology
The German party Sedisto has developed an innovative solution that also fits our containers: a padlock that works with NFC technology. The lock gets its energy directly from your phone’s signal-i.e. without batteries or power supply.
This solution is ideal for locations where simplicity and speed are important, but where smart access and monitoring are needed. Due to its compact and wireless design, it can be quickly applied to existing container parks without major modifications. It is a perfect way to make your self storage location smart step by step.

Building the future of access together
Are you already working with smart locks or are you just developing an innovative access system? If so, we’d love to get in touch with you. At USC, we continue to invest in smart solutions and are constantly looking for new integrations that add value for our customers.
Whether you’re looking for retrofit, premium design, off-grid capabilities or a smart solution without power or batteries – we like to think with you. Contact us to find out what’s possible for your location or product.
